Your First Gear Guide

Don't know where to start? We've got you. Here's everything a beginner rider needs to know about choosing the right protective gear — before you hit the road.

01

Protection First

As a beginner, your reflexes aren't tuned yet — your gear is your last line of defence. Always prioritise CE-rated armour at shoulders, elbows, back and knees before thinking about style.

Match Your Season

The climate here is extreme. Wear a mesh summer jacket and you'll freeze in December; wear a touring jacket in May and you'll overheat. Match your gear to the season and city you ride in.

Get the Right Fit

Gear that doesn't fit is gear that doesn't protect. Your jacket should be snug without restricting movement — armour must sit exactly on the joints. When in doubt, size for your riding position.

What you need

Beginner Essentials

Must Have

Riding Jacket

Your single most important piece. Protects torso, shoulders and elbows. Look for CE-rated armour and abrasion-resistant material.

Must Have

Riding Gloves

Hands hit the ground first in a fall. Palm sliders and knuckle protection are non-negotiable, even for short rides.

Recommended

Riding Pants

Regular jeans shred on impact. Riding pants with hip and knee armour keep your legs protected on every ride.

Recommended

Back Protector

Your spine doesn't heal easily. A CE-rated back protector is cheap insurance against life-changing injury.
